Just an FYI, I posted up on the blog my adventures at Disneyland for the launch of the "Young At Heart" collection. Man, it was my best Disneyland trip ever, and I was honored to be invited. I hope I represented us well, and I hope you enjoy my story of my experience that special day.

Sorry I made y'all jealous. I don't like bragging, but I like sharing in the excitement, and being able to share these cool things with the people who I feel care about it the most. I can't tell you how many people I saw at the event, including in our own group, who didn't wear Vans there! What in the heck were they thinking?! This was an all-inclusive paid for, free event, with free gifts! I got a free pair of shoes, a backpack, socks, a towel, and a bunch of cool smaller stuff. The least I could do was wear some Vans! Oh, and that's why I wore those Mickey Slip-Ons throughout Disneyland. To help promote the hell out of them! That's what we were there for. Nevermind looking or trying to be cool. It's hard to understand a lot of folks who think like that, because I don't. I never have. Stop being so selfish, and just taking taking taking. Learn how to give a little. If you give first, without expecting anything in return, I guarantee it will come back to you 10-fold. Hehe, but I digress. Wait for Vans site to have them, that way you'll know what retail is. These will be EVERYWHERE!

Of course we're all jealous! haha But also, super stoked for you! It's pretty awesome to know that the people behind the brand that we've all been fanboy-ing on a message board for 7 or 8 years and collecting for even longer is cool enough to recognize it's fan base and their importance and invite you out there for that event! I've never heard of any other brand doing something like that! AND they put you in Steve Van Doren's group no less!!! I mean, you are like the head representative of the Vans collecting community, but that's a heck of a way to show appreciation to their fan base. And free product! How did you not faint?! haha

Did SVD ask about your hat?

Eternally jealous, but also eternally stoked to be a small part of a community like this. The Vans community is seriously the best out there as far as these things go.

After seeing all the pictures on instagram, it really made me want to figure out a way to go work for Vans. Or Disney. But what else is new?! haha Perfect combo for a Vans and Disney nerd.

SVD never mentioned anything about the hat, but that's to be expected. He isn't really connected to the cool side of Vans, like Vault or collabs. He was conversating with Matt and I about some custom designs he made, and he was all stoked like a kid on Christmas morning about it, and he was all happy to describe them to us, and they were just pirate skulls with a red background on the outside of the shoe, and blue background on the inside of the shoe. Not any of our first choices by far, but he represents that nostalgia vintage side of Vans, and thus the Van Doren category which is right up that alley. He mentioned The Other Side of the Pillow too. That's what sparks his interest in Vans for sure. The sneaker world hasn't caught up to us in the realm of cool guy shit with Vans. It goes to show you how things are driven by hype and how a shoe's resellable worth determines it's coolness to the general public. That's why there's so much hysteria around Blends bones, Jason Dills (albeit an ignorant mistake on most people's part, thinking they were somehow tied to FA Vans.), Taka Hayashi Pendletons, VISVANS, 003 WTAPS leading to 005 and 006 models becoming hyped now, and we can go on and on forever. I guarantee if it wasn't for a few of us who adopted the Style 36 early on, it wouldn't be as popular as it is now! Now we're getting a grip of awesome colorways in them. I hope we influence designers at Vans, and I hope that they lurk our groups here and on SV on FB. We can hopefully help influence them a little bit. Not so much like how Supreme does with retroing old models, because they're creating stuff that's waaay ahead or waaay behind it's time which makes for some awesome stuff to collect, especially if you come up on it at The Rack! I feel Supreme speaks directly to the Vans collectors and community when they do those releases, and we should always be grateful for that. Nobody else is doing that. But in terms of current tastes, our current group of folks help guide Vans down that path just a little bit. We're like tugboats, hehe. Yeah. Tugboats.
